What activities can people of non-Christian faith such as Muslims, Jews, Buddhists and non-religious people partake in during the Christmas and New Year holiday season?

There are many families of different religions residing in nations where the majority religion is Christianity. It's easy for these families, who may be Muslims, Jews, and Buddhists etc, to feel left out of the Christmas festivities. So what can these families do during the Christmas and New Year holiday season? Here are some ideas.

Take a Vacation During the Christmas Holiday

Since it's the holiday season and schools and offices are closed, the Christmas season is a good time for a personal or family vacation. Families of non-Christian faith can use this time to vacation anywhere in the world (since there's a world-wide festive spirit celebrating the end of the year and the coming of a new one).

Also employers are more likely to schedule in a holiday during this time than any other, primarily because everyone else is on holiday!

Perform Work that Non-Christians Don't Want to Do

Non-Christians may also use the holiday season to put in overtime and extra shifts. This is because although Christians are mostly holidaying, there's still plenty of work to be done, especially in the retail sector which experiences its biggest year-end sales and shopping extravaganzas in December.

Often shops and restaurants are looking for extra help during this time and if someone is in need of monetary assistance, this is the perfect time to make some extra dough. Offices also often need people to staff 24/7 positions such as call centers, which may function worldwide. Such places would have a need for non-Christians to put in overtime or extra shifts to take up the slack of the holidaying workers.

Use the Christmas and New Year Holidays for Personal Reflection

People can also use the holiday season as a time of personal reflection and getting back in touch with their inner selves. They may meditate, take up yoga, go for long walks – whatever it takes to rejuvenate and clear the mind from the normal routine and everyday thoughts that otherwise occupy the mind.

New Year Resolutions Around the World

The end of the year can be a great time for introspection and people can use it to chart out the next year and plan their goals and ambitions for the upcoming year.

The traditional practice of New Year's resolutions is not restrictive to a particular faith or ideology; instead people of any faith as well as the non-religious can and should make these plans for the future.

Take Advantage of Christmas Sales, Shopping and Gift Ideas

Non-Christians can also use Christmas as a time to catch up on gift-giving for which they were just too busy or preoccupied during the year. After all, everywhere around them the spirit of giving is present and it's hard to resist it. So why beat 'em when one can join 'em, right? In fact the holiday season can easily be used every year to catch up on sharing presents and thoughtful trinkets that one might have accumulated during the year for friends but never got the chance to give to them.

No matter where in the world you live or what your faith is, the end of the year normally brings about feelings of introspection and deep thought as well as hope and ambitions for the future. People all around the world can use this time constructively either by surrounding themselves with family and friends or by getting something done during this time that wouldn't normally be possible in the year. It's a special time, so use it to carve special moments.
